In 2007, I entered a writing competition held by Tyne & Esk Writers where I was awarded a Commended prize for my short story The Bikini. I then joined the Tyne & Esk Penicuik group and am now the commitee rep and editor of Scrivens, a quarterly newsletter. All of this gave me the confidence I needed to seek publication for my writing.

Last year my illustrated poem, Raku Ninja was a runner up in the Manga Jiman competition held by the Japanese Embassy in London.

Whilst most of my shorter work is light hearted, there is always dark undertones. It is only in my novels - The Device The Devil & Me (published by Linen Press) and Spheres (seeking publication) that I really get to explore and play with these dark elements and intertwine them with humour and surreal interludes. I make it a rule to always end on a high though!

My Mission Statement (oh brother....!)

Writing has helped me over the years to come to terms with difficult emotions and situations that I have experienced and turn them, with the help of my imagination, into something creative and positive.

I have struggled in the past with my own mind which I feel that through this expression I have now tamed into being something I can delight in.

Having experienced darker times and come through them, I would urge anyone to take up something creative like writing or drawing and see how rewarding and challenging it can be.

If you would like to contact me with regards to hosting a workshop or giving a talk and reading you can do so through this site  or The Scottish Book Trust Live Literature Funding Scheme  where you can obtain help with funding a visit.

Hope to meet you and happy creating!
